چکیده

Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) is a new end-to-end transport protocol that is featured ‘multi-homing.’ The mSCTP (mobile SCTP) is defined as SCTP with the capability of dynamic address reconfiguration. This paper describes a framework of mSCTP handover for supporting vertical handover between heterogeneous IP networks such as WLAN and 3G Cellular systems. We show some experimental results of the mSCTP vertical handover on Linux platforms. From the experimental results, we see that the handover latency of mSCTP depends on Round Trip Time (RTT) between two SCTP endpoints, possibly with the handover latency of 1 second below.

mSCTP-DAC: Dynamic Address Configuration for mSCTP Handover

This paper proposes a dynamic IP address configuration (DAC) scheme for mSCTP handover, which exploits the information from the link layer to support SCTP handover between heterogeneous access networks. The proposed DAC scheme enables a mobile terminal to automatically add a new IP address in the newly visited region, change the primary path, and delete the old IP address so as to support the m...

Enhancement of packet reordering in a mobile stream control transmission protocol for a heterogeneous wireless network vertical handover

Future wireless access networks will be heterogeneous wireless network (HWN) environment which consists of various wireless technologies including universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) networks and wireless local area networks (WLAN). They are used together through vertical handover (VHO) to ensure global mobility and service continuity. The mobile stream control transmission protoc...

Adaptive Congestion Control of mSCTP for Vertical Handover Based on Bandwidth Estimation in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

This paper proposes a new congestion control scheme of mobile Stream Control Transmission Protocol (mSCTP) for vertical handover across heterogeneous wireless/mobile networks. The proposed scheme is based on the estimation of available bandwidths in the underlying network as a cross-layer optimization approach. For congestion control of mSCTP, the initial congestion window size of the new prima...

The seamless vertical handover between (universal mobile telecommunications system) UMTS and (wireless local area network) WLAN by using hybrid scheme of Bi-mSCTP in Mobile IP

Nowadays many different types of networks communicate among themselves to form heterogeneous wireless networks (HWN). Seamless vertical handover (VHO) between a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is necessary to provide continuous internet access for mobile node (MN) as roaming across these networks is to be without interruption. To suppor...

Implications of using a Large Initial Congestion Window to Improve mSCTP Handover Delay

The currently rather heterogeneous wireless landscape makes handover between different network technologies, so-called vertical handover, a key to a continued success for wireless Internet access. Recently, an extension to the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) – the Dynamic Address Reconfiguration (DAR) extension – was standardized by IETF. This extension enables the use of SCTP for v...
